Gary Reynolds & The Brides Of Obscurity

Yesterday I found "Instant Happiness", Gary Reynolds & The Brides of Obscurity's debut album. The first thing that their website bio points out is Gary Reynold's maturity, his wisdom and experience with the art of music. Coincidentally, almost every review of their debut mentions how they sound as if they're infused with the glorious souls of John Lennon and David Bowie, powering Reynolds with the energy and talent of a thousand suns. I agree with them, not fully, but I can hear what they're getting at. Listening to "Instant Happiness" I can hear that this is a band that's practiced, and sharpened their craft to a science. A few more years, and I just might place him in the royal pantheon of Lennon, Bowie, Bejar...

Still, the music on their debut is wonderful. Filled with variety, it absorbs your senses and places you into a green field of melodies and warmth. This is a definite feel good album, not just because it has those overtones, but because you can tell it's a fine record. You know these guys have skill. It makes me feel good. It's still no Bowie or Lennon, but it does the job right.

Listen in now.
